Director of the House of Song Academy, Mark Lekas trains all music students and interns in their music theory and instrumental abilities. He focuses on developing the artist´s musicality in classical, contemporary or jazz technique.
Being interested in music since he was a young boy, Mark started playing guitar at the age of 6. At age 9, he enrolled in the Royal School of Music beginning his classical training in piano and theory. Not long after his quick growth in the classical techniques, he grew fond of jazz rhythmic and studied it on guitar for 5 years. At the age of 16, he switched to bass guitar which has now become his strongest instrument. In his teenage years he taught himself in a variety of contemporary instruments and got very involved in the Gospel world, performing for bands and choirs. At age 23 he started his professional performance career for 8 years.
In the year 2000 he received an invitation to perform in Dubai. After finishing his time in Dubai, he returned to South Africa and started a duo ¨Color Blind¨. It was in this time he also had one of his best experiences performing on a cruise ship. In 2010, he joined Director of House of song Academy and has been fulfilling his passion since: Empowering musicians to their best ability and quality. Throughout these years of training others he has taught privately and in schools and college around Cape Town, he now is dedicated with special emphasis on his interns and recording studio.
